Day 3 - Team GAC Pindar in Cowes
03 August 2010
Team GAC Pindar enjoyed a successful day out on the water on day three of the Extreme Sailing Series, securing a second place finish in Race 14, behind Red Bull, and climbing to 7th in the standings with 82 points.
The fleet began racing at 10am from the Royal Yacht Squadron for the third long distance race of the event. Despite less wind than the first two days, racing was equally action packed, with the nine teams fighting to climb the standings.
Short course racing began at 1500 from Egypt Point. The sea breeze increased as the afternoon went on, reaching 18 knots for a couple of the races, enough for the catamarans to fly their hulls upwind and reach downwind speeds of 20 knots, providing some exciting action for the spectators.
With the sailors determined to secure maximum points as they reach the halfway stage of the event, there were some aggressive starting tactics, resulting in a general recall in race 15 and penalties handed out to many of the fleet.
Yann Guichard and his Groupe Edmond De Rothschild crew were on form on day three, winning three races and are now in third place overall.
The Wave, Muscat remains on the top of the leaderboard on 127 points.
