Ian Williams lying fifth in World Match Racing Tour standings

At the halfway stage on the 2009 World Match Racing Tour, defending champion Ian Williams and his Bahrain Team Pindar crew lie in fifth position in the standings, trailing leader Mathieu Richard (French Team) by 19 points.

Williams and crew have recently returned from Match Cup Sweden, where they narrowly missed out on a place in the quarter finals and valuable points.

The next event on the World Match Racing Tour is the St Moritz Match Race, held from September 1-6 2009 on Lake St Moritz, in the Engadin region of the southeastern Swiss Alps. Well regarded as one of the most prestigious events on the World Match Racing Tour calendar, teams will compete to claim the title “King of the Mountain.”

Williams has an impressive track record at the St Moritz Match Race, winning the event in 2007 and finishing second to Mathieu Richard in 2008. He will be looking for another good finish in 2009 as he bids to climb the leader board during the second half of the season.
