Introduction to Boron Nitride Powder

Industrial powder made of Boron Nitride is pure white ceramic with an hexagonal crystal structure that is similar to graphite. Boron Nitride can withstand temperatures as high as 2,000 degrees Celsius. Depending on the grade, its dielectric strengths are approximately 1000 volts/millimeter. Boron nitride can be hot-pressed into shape of billets, which can be readily processed into rods, bars,plates and even custom forms .

In terms of optical application, due to the exceptional hardness of the c-BN films and the excellent transmittance over the entire wavelength spectrum from ultraviolet(from about 200 nm)to far infrared. This makes it suitable as a surface coating for certain optical components. It is particularly suitable for use as a coating of window materials , such as zinc selenide(ZnSe)and zinc sulfide(ZnS).In further, it exhibits excellent resistance to thermal shocks and is extremely hard. It is predicted to become one of the best window materials for high-power devices and optical lasers.
